For the first time we predict the place and potential role the groundwater in the pollution of the coastal waters of the Caspian Sea. For this we used the methods of synthetic analysis and generalization of literary data on Azerbaijan groundwater, ways and mechanisms of soil contamination, fundamental concepts and principles developed in landscape geochemistry. The results of our study show that groundwater, while absorbing certain amounts of organic pollutants from the soil surface, particularly from the territories of oil-production enterprises, and unloading, can potentially carry them into the Caspian Sea, causing its pollution, and, along with the surface runoff of these pollutants, have a negative impact on the ecology of this unique reservoir.
