Fedorova L.P., Polyanin V.O. ASSESSMENT OF FILTRATION ACTIVITY OF DREISSENA POLYMORPHA, THE SOUTHERN INVASION SPECIES IN THE IVANKOVO RESERVOIR // Arid Ecosystems. 2023. Vol. 29. № 3 (96). P. 148-155. | PDF
Bivalve mollusks represent an important component of many natural and artificial aquatic ecosystems. However, the ecological role of some of them is quite ambiguous, especially in the case of non-native species which have widely spread far beyond their natural habitats over the last 100 years. The main objective of the study was to quantitatively assess the distribution of the south aquatic invader, Dreissena polymorpha, over Ivankovo Reservoir (the Upper Volga River) and calculate the volume of water filtered by the mollusks in order to understand the ability of the reservoir for self-purification.
Keywords: Ivankovskoe Reservoir, benthic organisms, bivalve mollusks, Dreissena polymorpha, self-purification of natural waters, water filtration rate, non-native species.
Financing.
